Book - Mycroft Holmes
Titan Books announce Mycroft Holmes by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Whitehouse, based on the great detective's enigmatic brother, will be released next month...
“When I say, therefore, that [my brother] has better powers of observation than I… I am speaking the exact and literal truth.” – Sherlock Holmes
About the book:
Fresh out of Cambridge University, Mycroft Holmes is working for Edward Cardwell, the British Secretary of State for War, and is already proving himself as a shrewd player in the British government. His best friend is Cyrus Douglas, a man of African descent born and raised in Trinidad, where Mycroft's new fiancée, Georgiana, also was raised. Cyrus hears troubling news from home: mysterious disappearances; strange, backwards-facing footprints on the sand; spirits enticing children to their deaths. Holmes’s fiancée receives the same news, abruptly panics, and departs for Trinidad. Mycroft talks Cyrus into following her on this hazardous journey, drawing them all into a web of dark secrets that grow more insidious and baffling with each step they take. Sherlock Holmes will appear as a student at King’s College, along with enticing hints about the ‘true state’ of the Holmes family—and the painful legacy that the brothers endure. The tragedies that Mycroft encounters in this adventure are the seeds that will eventually turn him into the reclusive genius ‘power’ behind the British government, and the founder of the famous Diogenes Club.
When asked about his love of Sherlock Holmes, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said “I was first introduced to Conan Doyle’s beloved detective through old movies starring Basil Rathbone, though Jeremy Brett is still my favorite Holmes. Then, as an NBA rookie for the Milwaukee Bucks, I was given a set of Sherlock Holmes stories for my first road trip, and I was hooked. I’d even find myself using Holmes’s power of observation to enhance my own game and exploit weaknesses in my opponents. Now my love affair with Holmes has come full circle: that first rookie road trip culminated in a stay at Vacation Village in San Diego, which is where we made the deal last year to pen this story of Mycroft Holmes.”
