One man. 30 days, 678 games. No online purchases. It’s the premise that launched a film over 10,000 miles in the making and showcases the adventure of video game rock star, Jay Bartlett, a fanatic collector in pursuit of his dream to own a complete official North American NES library. Along the way, filmmaker Rob McCallum examines the enduring legacy of the NES and Nintendo while talking to the enthusiastic community of retro gamers and game collectors.
Nintendo Quest features exclusive interviews with well-known names in the game industry including ‘greatest arcade player of all time’ Billy Mitchell, ‘Twin Galaxies’ founder Walter Day, and gaming personality Patrick Scott Patterson, as well as legendary game designers Warren Davis and Tommy Tallarico. It’s the first time a roster of this magnitude and talent discuss Nintendo and the landmark home console, the NES.
Currently Rob McCallum is embarked on another road tour across North America for a dozen limited theatrical screenings of Nintendo Quest. The film has already amassed a community of fans who have followed the road trip and anticipate the release. Now, it will be widely available to Nintendo fans as well as those with a passion for quality documentary and an interest in collectables and discoveries.
Robert McCallum says: "Making "Nintendo Quest" was the most challenging and thrilling thing I’ve ever done in my life, and now to take the film on the road to the communities that welcomed us when we made the movie, and to new communities is a continuation of that eye-opening experience that shows you anything is possible if you have the guts to go on an adventure - Video game fan or not, you’ll never find a more fun documentary that keeps you guessing, cheering, and excited until the very end.”
Vision Films is starting their VOD tour with a Vimeo On Demand exclusive. The deal was negotiated between Lise Romanoff, Managing Director of Vision Films and Sam Toles, Vimeo’s Vice President of Content Acquisitions.
"I grew up playing Nintendo games, and I know my enthusiasm will be shared by many other 'children of the 1980s'," says Alex Saveliev, Director of Domestic Distribution at Vision Films, Inc. "This superb documentary should resonate with all the gaming aficionados, as well as folks just looking for insight into the industry - and a highly entertaining adventure!"
The video game industry has been valued at more than $100 billion over the next three years, and Nintendo plays a key role in the industry in terms of its iconic status and selling well over 500 million units to date.
