Film - Code 8
The over-excitable /G-f office hears news of a new short film, Code 8 by Robbie and Stephen Amell, which is crowdfunding to be turned into a full length feature...
Well? Have you watched it yet? What do you mean "watched what?" Have you watched the new 10 minute short film, Code 8, that got released yesterday from Arrow star Stephen Amell and his cousin Robbie, star of The Tomorrow People, The Flash and The X Files. Well once you HAVE watched it (the link is at the bottom of this article) you will realise why we're quite so excited to see it crowdfunding to be turned into a full length feature.
Shot in LA last summer, the film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.
The story follows a young man with special powers (Robbie Amell) struggling to find work as a day labourer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Sung Kang, Fast & Furious) and the autonomous robots backing him up.
Because of scheduling, Stephen Amell couldn’t be in the short, but acted as executive producer and will co-star in the feature length production, “I had to jump straight from Turtles back to Arrow,” says Stephen, “but I’m going to do everything I can to help see this become a full length movie.”
The short film was self-financed by director/producer Jeff Chan along with Robbie and Stephen Amell and help from friends and family but the feature film has turned to Indiegogo contributors for funding this time. The crowdfunder has LOADS of perks on offer, with everything from a thank you on Twitter to a chance to be an extra or get a personal invitation to the Amell's birthday parties on offer. Of course there's all the usual hoodies, T-shirts, scripts and posters as well as the film itself when it comes out.
