#NotBaconBits - From The Proclaimers to...
Yesterday we played Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers, which led @JimJamGin down memory lane for today's #NotBaconBits connection...
As always for #NotBaconBits, once you've listened to today's choice, we're looking for your suggestions for tomorrow's track.
Join in by tweeting us @albiemediaAM with the #NotBaconBits hashtag or adding your suggestions in the comments of our #NotBaconBits Facebook posts - remember the link can be as simple or contrived as you want, in any music genre (it doesn't have to be classical or pop) and you can link to anything about the song - the title, the artist, words in the song, something about the video ... anything as long as you can justify it. If we pick your suggestion for the link, you'll get the credit in that day's article and shout outs on our social networking streams.
Here's Jimmy's connection: "The Proclaimers took part in a Gerry Rafferty tribute concert almost exactly 5 years ago in Glasgow. There were a number of great (Scottish) ScotTrad / Folk / Rock acts but I'm picking the master himself - Gerry. The wealth of material is wonderful: Stealer's Wheel and, of course, The Humblebums with the inimitable Billy Connolly. My choice is Night Owl - I know this song had significance for Gerry but as a young gay man not yet out, it spoke volumes to me about loneliness and I've loved the track (and album) since it was released."
Here's the full 6 minute version of that masterful track.
