Steve Taylor-Bryant gets sidetracked by a drummer... again... and finds some talented TV gits that can also do music...



I'm supposed to be sat here finishing off my Supernatural series of articles for our sister site TheDreamCage.com today, I've been writing it for about four months so far, and instead I'm watching Crowley play drums. Yep, I'm yet again not doing what I'm supposed to be, I can't even call Mark Sheppard drumming on YouTube research (I asked, I really can't) so I need to dig myself out of this skiving little hole I've found myself in. Here then is a small piece on television stars turned musicians!



Talented gits the lot of them! Or if you prefer - there is a long history of our favourite television personalities being able to strum a guitar or warble some words. Some have had dual careers, managing to be successful in all fields, some do it just for fun. Some do it because a particular role demands and some just for charity. All are talented gits! There's loads of examples of stars being talented gits out there, no one can doubt the appeal of Kylie Minogue for example and so I've stayed away from a debate of who is best or most successful as music is very personal and Minogue only makes my list if you bring money into it. No, I've gone for pure enjoyment, five stars of television past or present that have got involved in music for whatever reason and whose performance has brought me joy.



Spender himself Jimmy Nail is first up. I loved Crocodile Shoes it was a real rags to riches tale that showed not every road to stardom is paved with gold, plus a young Alex Kingston is always worth watching. Nail wrote and performed many songs across the series but I think my standout one is this, Calling Out Your Name.









Staying back in the olden days of the 1990’s next up is Australian heartthrob/soapstar Craig Mclachlan. I wasn’t a huge fan of either Neighbours or Home and Away but liked Mclachlan in both, and thoroughly enjoyed BUGS little run on British television. He went pop like Stefan Dennis, Jason Donovan and Kylie did but not full on teenybopper pop. Hey, Mona…







Speaking of Stefan Dennis…





Just kidding. Hugh Laurie really is a talented git, always has been always will be. He can play multiple instruments really well, sing, act like some kind of acting god, and is funny as hell. A few years ago he took part in a musical project that raised money for good causes, Band From T.V alongside Jesse Spencer (another House git), Greg Grunberg (Heroes git), Terri Hatcher (Clarke and Lois git), Scott Grimes (from just about everything git), and many more. Enjoy talented gittishness in all its gitdom…









And I suppose we had better end with my reason for not actually doing any work today and take a look at Mark Sheppard and friends. Recorded at a convention a while ago we have some Lynryd Skynyrd being performed by Chuck/God (Rob Benedict) on electric guitar, Crowley The King of Hell (Sheppard himself) on Drums, and Dean Winchester (Jenson ‘J-Dogg’ Ackles) on acoustic guitar and vocals. What a Supernatural experience that must have been for the audience.



No, I am not sorry for that bad joke…
