Film/TV - Golden Globes 2018
The 75th Golden Globe Awards have been presented. Here's the full winners list...
It was a black night at the 75th Golden Globe awards but this was deliberate as many of the stars of the night wore black dresses, shirts or pin badges in support of the Time's Up movement, standing in solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri was the big film winner, picking up four awards from the six nominations it got, including the big Best Motion Picture, Drama award and Best Actress for Frances McDormand. It missed out on Best Director though, which went to Guillermo del Toro for Shape of Water. Gary Oldman picked up the Best Actor Award for his stunning portrayal of Churchill in Darkest Hour. In the "Comedy or Musical" side of films, Lady Bird picked up best picture and the Best Actress award for Saoirse Ronan. Best Actor went to James Franco for The Disaster Artist.
In Television, Big Little Lies picked up the award in every category where it was nominated, with Nicole Kidman beating Reece Witherspoon to the Best Actress in a TV Movie or Mini Series award and Laura Dern beating Shailene Woodley to the related Supporting Actress Award. The Handmaid's Tale won the best TV Drama series, with Elisabeth Moss picking up the Best Actress in a TV Drama. Ewan McGregor won the Best TV Drama Actor award for his role in Fargo.
Oprah Winfrey was presented with this year's Cecil B deMille award at the end of another star studded event, given annually to a talented individual for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment , with the president of the HFPA stating that "As a global media leader, philanthropist, producer, and actress, she has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world, making her one of the most respected and admired figures today. For generations, Oprah has celebrated strong female characters on and off screen, and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades."
