Today at the Proms - Prom 14
Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2018, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 14: Sibelius, Schubert & Zimmermann ...
... and Wagner. Can't forget Wagner with his Mastersingers. There's a very Teutonic feel to tonight's selections (yes I know Sibelius and Schubert aren't German but these pieces have that sound).
Zimmermann on the other hand IS German and is a composer I hadn't come across before so I went looking for the Symphony in One Movement and it is... challenging. It will provide a sharp contrast to the rest of the music tonight, even with its Germanic overtones, but I believe it is worth the fight.
Have a listen just now to get used to it and you'll be able to better appreciate (if not enjoy) it this evening.
Here's the full programme for this evening's Prom which you can listen to live from 19:30 on Radio 3 or on the iPlayer
