Today at the Proms - Prom 3
Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2018, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 3: BBC Young Musician 40th Anniversary...
Reminder - Watch Prom 3: BBC Young Musician 40th Anniversary on BBC Four tonight, 19:30
Lots of lovely bits and pieces in tonight's Prom as The Young Musician of the Year is celebrated by previous winners and finalists including the cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason (who played at the recent royal wedding) and the violinist Nicola Benedetti.
Music-wise we have the joy of some completely new pieces getting their world premieres among some much more recognisable pieces. The great thing is that, even though there are lots listed, they're all relatively short so, if you don't like something, you don't have long to wait until something else comes along.
With excerpts from the Carnival of The Animals as one of the pieces, this is one of my favourites, Fossils, introduced here in inimitable fashion by Bugs Bunny...
Here's the full programme for this evening's Prom which you can listen to live from 19:30 on Radio 3 or on the iPlayer
