The untold, true story of Robert the Bruce who transforms from defeated nobleman to outlaw hero during the oppressive occupation of medieval Scotland by Edward I of England. Despite grave consequences, Robert seizes the Scottish crown and rallies an impassioned group of men to fight back against the mighty army of the tyrannical King and his volatile son, the Prince of Wales.
Filmed in Scotland using some historically accurate locations in and around Dunfermline and Linlithgow, the epic period drama, with a screenplay co-written with Bash Doran (Boardwalk Empire), James MacInnes, Mark Bomback and renowned Scottish playwright David Harrower, reunites writer/director David Mackenzie with Chris Pine following the Academy Award® nominated Hell or High Water.
Pine stars as Robert The Bruce, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth), Tony Curran (Sons of Anarchy), Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) and Billy Howle (On Chesil Beach). The feature film is produced by Mackenzie with his long time film-making partner Gillian Berrie via their production company Sigma Films, and Richard Brown and Steve Golin of Anonymous Content.
