Today at the Proms - Proms 29 & 30

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2018, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Proms 29 & 30: Brandenburg Concertos Project  ...

Reminder - Watch Prom 15: Paul Lewis plays Beethoven's 'Emperor' concerto on BBC Four tonight

Now this is a very interesting idea. Take the pomp and pageantry of Bach's six Brandenburg concertos, now widely regarded as the most famous of his works, and pair each one with a newly composed, specially commissioned companion piece, each by a different composer. It will make an utterly fascinating musical cycle to see how one is inspired by the other and how the two vastly different eras mix.

We get Brandenburgs 1, 3 and 5 in the first prom and 2, 4 and 6 in the second each with a UK premiere of the new companion work to go with it. I can pretty much guarantee though that none of them will look as pretty as this one.
