Book - A Shroud of Leaves
A must-read for fans of crime thrillers and historical fiction, Titan Books announce the release in July of Rebecca Alexander's latest Sage Westfield thriller, A Shroud of Leaves...
Press Release
“The victim had been buried in a carved hollow in the grass and shrouded in fallen leaves…”
Archaeologist Sage Westfield has her first forensics case: investigating the death of a teenage girl. Hidden by holly leaves, the girl’s body has been discovered on the grounds of a stately home, where another teenage girl went missing twenty years ago – but her body was never found. With mysterious links between the two disappearances, the police suspect the reclusive owner, Alistair Chorleigh, who was questioned twenty years ago but never charged. But when Sage investigates a nearby burial mound – and uncovers rumours of an ancient curse – she discovers the story of Edwin Masters, his friend Peter Chorleigh, and an excavation over a hundred years ago, that also ended in a mysterious disappearance. Still recovering from the traumatic events of her recent past, Sage will need both her modern forensics skills and her historical archaeological knowledge to unearth the devastating truth.
Sage Westfield is a compelling heroine (read Susan Omand's review of Sage Westfield's previous outing, A Baby's Bones), who takes the reader on a captivating journey as she works to uncover a century-old murder and a modern-day homicide while discovering an ancient secret that connects them both in this gripping, atmospheric thriller. A Shroud of Leaves alternates between the past and present day, effortlessly intertwining police procedural with themes of folklore and family secrets.
Rebecca Alexander is a psychologist and writer. Rebecca wrote her first book aged nineteen, and since then has been runner up in the Mslexia novel writing competition and the Yeovil Literary Prize 2012. She is the author of the Jackdaw Hammond series of supernatural crime novels published by Del Rey, The Secrets of Life and Death (2013), The Secrets of Blood and Bone (2014) and The Secrets of Time and Fate (2016). She lives in Devon.
A Shroud of Leaves is published by Titan Books on 9th July
