Today at the Proms - Proms 3 & 4

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2019, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 3: CBeebies: A Musical Trip to the Moon and Prom 4: The Planets ...

Reminder - Watch Prom 2: Bohemian Rhapsody on BBC Four at 19:30

Some good fun music today. Starting with the evening concert and a homage to all the moon related goings on this week, we have Holst's Planets which is always wonderful - from the jollity of Jupiter to the mayhem of Mars, if you know classical music, you will have heard this. Also tonight we have a bright and beautiful violin concerto by Barber (he of the adagio for strings) with Franco-Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović as soloist. The other piece tonight is also played earlier in the day and is the very festive (I blame the woodblock) Short Ride in a Fast Machine

Earlier in the day though, and repeated tomorrow, we have a children's prom for CBeebies. Do not dismiss this as being JUST for children though since, as well as the Short Ride, we have some marvellous music, from the gentleness of the humming chorus to the majesty of the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and children's TV theme favourites to a world premiere of a new work by the venerable film composer Hans Zimmer!

There's also a well known fanfare...
