Today at the Proms - Prom 75

Rounding off our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2019, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 75: Last Night of the Proms ...



Watch the Last Night of the Proms live on TV tonight with Part 1 on BBC2 and Part 2 on BBC1. Obviously.



Four score and seven years ago... okay it's not, it's only been 57 days since the First Night, it just feels longer [a lot, LOT, longer - Ed] but, finally, we've made it to the Last Night of the Proms for this year!



As always, the final five pieces of the night are the traditional ones that we've come to know so well, doing all the actions and hankie waving for the Fantasia on British Sea Songs, wondering about "the outfit" for the singer of  Rule Britannia, bobbing up and down to  Land of Hope and Glory, air-conducting to Jerusalem and paying due deference to the National anthem before getting Auld Lang Syne completely wrong.



But also, as always, the first part of the night is completely different and what an eclectic mix we have this year. From Carmen to Aida and Orpheus to the Wizard of Oz, there sounds like there will be a lot to enjoy. There are also a few pieces that will be new to me too, including the premiere of Daniel Kidane's Woke, Elizabeth Maconchy's Proud Thames and the one I want to share with you which I'd never heard before, Laura Mvula's Sing to the Moon. Yes, I know, it's not "proper Proms" music but isn't it gorgeous?
