Today at the Proms - Day 31

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2021, Susan Omand takes a quick look at today's Prom...

Tonight's Prom will be televised on BBC Four

In stark contrast to yesterday's offering, I fully expect today's prom to be utterly joyous and full of fun. It's the Family Prom and, if you can ignore all the wailing weans and bawling bairns, there promises to be some cracking music on offer.

First up is a World Premiere so I can't really tell you much about it, other than to point out that there is poetry in there from the glorious Lemn Sissay and a Caribbean Carnival atmosphere will be conjured in the new music from Daniel Kidane.

The Carnival continues with the terrific Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns which is brought to life by the uber talented Kanneh-Mason family alongside more new poetry, this time from the venerable Michael Morpurgo.

I was trying to think which "animal" out of Saint-Saëns' Carnival was my favourite for today's clip... and then I found this.

Here's the full programme for today's Proms which you can listen to live on Radio 3 or on the iPlayer
