Kevin Bacon (You Should Have Left, City on a Hill, Cop Car) and Farrah Mackenzie (United States of Al, Utopia) have joined Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Myha'la Herrold, rounding out the cast of Netflix’s Leave the World Behind.

A family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world.

Suspenseful and provocative, Rumaan Alam’s third novel, which provides the basis for this adaptation, is keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race, and class. Leave the World Behind explores how our closest bonds are reshaped—and unexpected new ones are forged—in moments of crisis.

With a screenplay written and directed by Sam Esmail, Leave the World Behind is produced by Esmail and Chad Hamilton through Esmail Corp, Julia Roberts, Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill producing through Red Om Films banner with Executive Producers Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis, Rumaan Alam, Esmail Corp’s Nick Krishnamurthy, and Danny Stillman.
