Audio - The Avengers: The Comic Strip Adaptations Volume 7
The Avengers face new threats (including Paul O'Grady as the wonderfully-named Septimus Crump) in three adaptations of the original comic strips, due for release by Big Finish in March ...
Press Release
Return to 1960s Britain for more espionage with John Steed (Julian Wadham) and Tara King (Emily Woodward.) In three adventures, the secret agents face mind-control, kidnappings and the vengeful mastermind, Septimus Crump (played by Paul O'Grady MBE DL).
This box set’s thrilling spy-fi adventures, based on TV Comic’s original strips, are as follows:
The Fabulous Sky Beam Dilemma by Nigel Fairs
Tara gets the cream and Steed has it licked.
A visiting royal finds themselves caught up in a bizarre assassination plot where finding the method will be Steed and Tara’s greatest challenge.
Writer Nigel Fairs said: “It felt like a joyous holiday writing this. After writing a number of angsty and emotional character-driven dramas over the years, I was very much attracted to the glorious lightness that you get with The Avengers. The episodes are a little off the wall which really appealed to me.”
A Tale In Tartan by Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky
Tara captures the castle and Steed crosses the border.
A kidnapping leads Tara into Scotland where she finds herself with a suspiciously familiar sidekick…
Co-writer Robert Khan said: “The ingredients in the original comic strip were; an evil villain, a Scottish castle, a very annoying child, and a defrocked vicar. We had to put all of this together and add quite a few more elements. A big theme of this is a celebration of all things Scottish.”
This Train Terminates Here by John Dorney
Tara steams ahead and Steed goes off the rails.
A series of railway-based crimes are occurring across the country and it would appear to be the work of a sinister station-master…
Writer John Dorney said: “Septimus Crump has been badly let down by the train service and opts to take his revenge by a variety of train-based crimes and hijinks. It was great fun to write! Septimus Crump is played by Paul O'Grady – I’ve always been aware that he’s a fan of The Avengers. It’s delightful that we finally got him.”
Christopher Benjamin returns as the spies’ superior, Mother in a talented ensemble cast which also includes Andrew Spooner (as Rupert), Abi Harris (as Bonnie Braithwaite) and Janet Amsden (as Betty Grudge).
