On his BBC Radio 6 Music show, Steve Lamacq (weekdays, 4pm-7pm) announced that listeners can apply to attend an intimate, exclusive concert from Suede at Glasgow Stereo on Friday 3rd February, as part of the station’s Independent Venue Week celebrations.

The 30 minute performance – as well as an interview with Suede – will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds from the Scottish venue, which will be the final stop on Steve Lamacq’s tour of independent venues across the UK (Monday 30th January – Friday 3rd February).

Ten pairs of tickets to attend the 30 minute gig are up for grabs for listeners and allocated at random via the BBC Studio Audiences Services ballot. Audiences can register for the chance to get tickets here. Registration is now open and closes on Thursday 26th January at 7pm.

Audiences must be aged 18 or over to apply for tickets and one application per person can be submitted. Successful applicants will be notified no later than Monday 30th January.

Independent Venue Week, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, is the UK’s annual seven-day celebration of independent music and arts venues and the people that own, run and work in them. For this year’s Independent Venue Week, Steve Lamacq will take his tour bus around the UK for a series of special shows.

The tour will see Steve broadcasting from a different venue in a UK town or city each day – Ramsgate Music Hall (Monday 30th January), Hare and Hounds in Birmingham (Tuesday 31st January), Norwich Arts Centre (Wednesday 1st February), KU Stockton (Thursday 2nd February) and Stereo in Glasgow (Friday 3rd February).

The shows will also feature recorded-live performances in UK independent venues from Sprints (at Ramsgate Music Hall), Grove (at Birmingham Hare and Hounds), Young Fathers (at Norwich Arts Centre) and The Murder Capital (at KU Stockton), as well as Suede (at Glasgow Stereo).

All of these artists will join Steve in conversation before performing at each of these venues.

Each set will open with a performance from a BBC Music Introducing artist. Honeyglaze will open for Sprints, Maya Randle will open for Grove, Maria Uzor will open for Young Fathers, Trunky Juno will open for The Murder Capital, and Theo Bleak will open for Suede.

English rock band Suede was formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bass player Mat Osman. Suede were dubbed The Best New Band in Britain by Melody Maker in 1992. Their debut self-titled album won the Mercury Music Prize and went to the top of the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years. Now consisting of Anderson, Osman, drummer Simon Gilbert, guitarist Richard Oakes and keyboardist Neil Codling, Suede released their ninth studio album, Autofiction, in September 2022.
